OH HAI.
Have you missed me? Yeah, well, I’ve missed Tumblr too.
Was traveling all summer, have moved to a foreign country this fall, just doesn’t add up for an active Internet life in some respects.
But now it seems that this Tumblr hiatus will be extended. I need to seriously, seriously buckle down on work. I’ve promised myself that when I get two chapters of my book written, I can come back to Tumbling. (Those of you who know my kinda sorta work-related Tumblr can get some action over there.)
So in the meantime (and it’s going to be a long meantime), enjoy this view from my window: a rainbow over my new landscape, an urban corner of the Canadian prairie.
Yep, still alive. From the Dolomites to my other hometown: Asolo, in the Veneto. Today, departing Florence for Roma, Caput Mundi (DS’s mamma in tow).
I’m alive and well, here in Cortina (Italy). Ten days in beautiful Portugal, three days with my family in Asolo, and now in the Dolomites for a trekking trip in these gorgeous mountains.
DS and I leave for our European boondoggle tomorrow, so get used to this week’s pattern of very little posting.
Photos from the trip might get posted from time to time, but you’re better off checking my Flickr. Drop me an email (picablog on gmail) for the link.
Reasons why DS is the best include, but are not limited to the following:
What is really depressing is that very few people with PhDs in, say, humanities or social sciences make $1555/week. (I sure as hell don’t, DS doesn’t. Department chairs might.) Yes, the general picture stays the same if you create two tiers of folks with doctoral degrees, but this picture is somewhat misleading.
Plus, what about those under-employed people—folks with college or advanced degrees doing retail work.
